Airport Information
Kuala Lumpur airport (KUL)
Transfer Between Terminals: A courtesy Aerotrain
operates between the contact pier and the satellite (journey
time: approximately 2.5 minutes) every 3-5 minutes.
Iinformation and Help Desks: There is an information
and tourist information counter in Arrivals in the satellite
in front of the Aerotrain station. There is also a help
desk in the contact pier near one of the escalators leading
to the immigration hall. A Visitors Service Centre providing
information on airport services and facilities as well
as tourist information is located in the baggage reclaim
hall. There is also a Travellers Services Centre on the
Arrivals concourse providing meet and greet facilities
and travel arrangements (tel: (0)3 8776 4571; fax: (0)3
8787 4196). In addition, there is an information counter
between check-in rows E and F on the Departures level
of the main terminal building. Info kiosks or touch-screen
information systems are located throughout the airport.
Airport Facilities: Money and communications:
There is a bank on the ground floor of Block C in the
short-term car park, near the bus station. Bureaux de
change and ATMs are available on the Departures and Arrivals
levels in the main terminal building, in the satellite
and in the Arrivals hall. A post office can be found on
the Departures level in the main terminal (open Mon-Sat
0830-1700). Eating and drinking: There are restaurants,
snack bars, fast food outlets and cafés which cater
for all tastes. Shopping: There are many shops, including
duty free (mostly in the satellite, but with a good variety
also on level 5 in Departures and level 3 in Arrivals).
Luggage: Left luggage services are located on the public
concourse on Departures and Arrivals levels. Coin-operated
lockers are also available in the satellite. Other facilities:
Nursery/baby changing facilities are located throughout
the airport. 24-hour clinics are available on the Arrivals
concourse and there is an emergency sick bay in the satellite.
Pharmacies are available in the main terminal building
and in the satellite. Smoking lounges are available near
gate C1 in the satellite and gate B1 on the domestic level.
Most airlines have lounges for use by their passengers;
these are available on the mezzanine level in the satellite.
Disabled Facilities: Facilities for disabled travellers
include ramps, lifts, wheelchair-accessible toilets and
adapted telephones; passengers should advise their airline
of their needs in advance, to arrange personal assistance.
Disabled car parking spaces are available on level 2 in
the covered short-term car park, close to the link bridges,
which connect to the terminal.
Conference and Business Facilities: The Plaza Buiness
Centre (tel: (0)3 8787 2323; fax: (0)3 8787 2727) is located
on the mezzanine floor in the satellite and is equipped
with fax machines and Internet facilities, as well as
postal and secretarial services. There are also business
centres at the KLIA Pan Pacific Hotel (tel: (0)3 8787
3333; fax: (0)3 8787 5555) with facilities including fax,
Internet, workstation rental and secretarial services. Car Hire:
Car hire companies, including Avis, Budget, Hertz, National
and Thrifty, operate 24-hour desks on the Arrivals concourse,
on level 3 in the main terminal building. Car
Parking: Passengers can park their vehicles in blocks
B and C of the covered short-term car park. The building
is connected to the main terminal building and the Pan
Pacific Hotel at level 2. Driving Direcyions:
From Kuala Lumpur, take the North-South Central Link Expressway
(ELITE). Alternatively take the North-South Expressway
and drive south, turning off at the Nilai Interchange
towards Salak Tinggi and the airport. Public
Transport : Rail: Train: Express rail services (ERL)
from the airport to Kuala Lumpur are under construction
and will be completed by 2002. Road: Taxi: Taxis are available
from the Arrivals level. Passengers should buy a coupon
at taxi counters on the Arrivals level and are advised
not to use taxis offered by illegal taxi operators. Two
types of services are available (Premier and Budget, and
fares are based on a zoning system). Bus: Express and
local buses to Kuala Lumpur are available from the bus
station, located on the ground floor of the car park building,
near block C. Passengers can take a bus straight to Hentian
Putra in Kuala Lumpur or to Seremban. Buses operate 0520-2400.
Deparuure Tax: RM40 for international departures.
Sea
The major international ports are Georgetown (Penang),
Port Kelang (for Kuala Lumpur) and, in East Malaysia (for
Sabah and Sarawak), Kota Kinabalu, Lahad Datu, Sandakan,
Tawau, Bintulu, Rejang and Kuching. Shipping lines with
passenger services to Malaysia include Blue Funnel, P&O
and Straits Shipping. Cargo/passenger lines are Austasia,
Knutsen, Lykes, Neptune Orient, Orient Overseas and Straits
Shipping. Star Cruises (Singapore) organises luxury cruises
from Port Kelang. Other lines that offer cruises from
this port include Coral Princess and Gemini. Norwegian
Cruise Lines, Royal Caribbean and Seabourn Cruise Lines
also call at Malaysia. Rail
Through services operate to and from Singapore via
Kuala Lumpur and between Butterworth and Bangkok (Thailand)
daily. There is also a 41-hour round trip available from
the Eastern and Oriental Express, a luxury train service
modelled on the famous Orient Express, which leaves from
Singapore, journeys through Kuala Lumpur and heads north
to Bangkok from where it returns to Singapore.
Road
Peninsular Malaysia is linked by good roads to Thailand
and (via two causeways) to Singapore. Toll fees are levied
on all highways throughout Malaysia. Road connections
between the two eastern states, Sarawak and Sabah, and
their neighbours on Borneo, Brunei and the Indonesian
state of Kalimantan are fairly good. |
